PROJECTS

Tailings Project Filtered in Pellets Plant - CMP

The Project contemplated the construction, operation and closure of a leaked tailings deposit on land located on land owned by CAP Mining, south of the Pellet Plant, commune of Huasco, Atacama region, Chile. The deposit considered a storage capacity of 14.6 million tons of tailings, equivalent to 7.6 million cubic meters.

The Project was designed to suspend the discharge of tailings into the sea and construct a filtered tailings pond using pressure filters.

  • PMC participated since 2018 as a consulting company and counterpart in all stages of the project, from Conceptual Engineering (Hatch), feasibility (Fluor), Feasibility (Worley) and Commissioning (CMP).
  • The project had a double challenge: on the one hand, to find a technology that would allow superfine tailings to be filtered with a P80 size of 34um and with 40% less than 7.5um, and on the other hand, to have the project in operation in September 2023, meeting all the requirements: engineering, financing, environmental permits and construction stages.
